Smedley toont begrip voor Crashgate-zaak Massa

Felipe Massa is nog steeds bezig met zijn juridische proces tegen de FIA en de Formule 1 over het seizoen van 2008. Massa is van mening dat hij recht heeft op die wereldtitel, maar momenteel zwijgt men over de zaak. Rob Smedley begrijpt waarom Massa deze stappen heeft gezet.

Massa eindigde in 2008 nipt als tweede in het wereldkampioenschap. Hij vocht een spectaculair titelduel uit met Lewis Hamilton en uiteindelijk trok de Brit aan het langste eind. Toen Bernie Ecclestone vorig jaar aangaf dat hij en de FIA al in 2008 wisten van het Crashgate-schandaal, reageerde Massa woedend. Zonder de Crashgate-race was Massa immers wereldkampioen geworden. Hij besloot juridische stappen te nemen.

Geschiedenis

Momenteel zwijgen de betrokkenen over de zaak, dus veel details zijn er momenteel niet bekend. Massa's toenmalig race-engineer Rob Smedley laat zich nu uit over het juridische proces van Massa in de podcast van The Race: "Ik wil eerst even zeggen dat ik iemand ben die achter zich laat wat er gisteren is gebeurd, goed of slecht. Iets voelt voor mij al snel als geschiedenis aan. Voor mij zeggen medailles niet zoveel. Ik heb interesse in wat er vandaag of morgen gebeurt."

Waarheid

Smedley begrijpt wel heel goed waarom Massa ervoor heeft gekozen om juridische stappen te zetten tegen de FIA en de Formule 1. De Britse engineer heeft er weinig problemen mee: "Dit is iets waar Felipe veel bij voelt. Het is geen geheim dat Felipe een goede vriend van mij is, hij is als een broertje voor mij. Als dit iets is waar hij veel bij voelt, dan praat hij er heel veel over. Hij is er dan van overtuigd dat hij dit doet om de waarheid boven tafel te krijgen."

Het gaat niet om de waarheid, want die ligt al lang op tafel. Het gaat om knaken en prestige. Iedereen heeft het recht te procederen, maar dit is weer een hoop onzin.

  @Audi f1 Probeerde hij het maar. Massa komt al ruim een jaar niet verder dan "Ik waarschuw nog 1 keer, en nog 1 keer, en nog... ach, weetje wat - de waarschuwingen zijn vandaag in de aanbieding - 7 voor de prijs van 6!

  Als je de feiten op een rij zet heeft hij toch al gelijk? Dat kan een rechter wel bevestigen in de vorm van een schadevergoeding, maar heb je dan pas gelijk? Wat mij betreft heeft hij nu al gelijk. Je kan er alleen nog wat geld uitslepen en een stukje prestige in de vorm van een wereldkampioen die nooit wereldkampioen is geworden.

Is het begrip van Rob nou echt van nieuwswaardig belang? Ik bedoel hoe objectief is dat nou.. Rob was/is zon beetje de boezemvriend van Massa.
