Barcelona heeft goede hoop op contractverlenging

Vorige week werd duidelijk dat de Spaanse Grand Prix vanaf 2026 wordt verreden in Madrid. Dat betekent dus dat het circuit van Barcelona deze titel kwijtraakt. Toch is het nog niet zeker dat Barcelona ook van de kalender gaat verdwijnen, de organisatie heeft goede hoop op contractverlenging.

Direct na de bekendmaking van de race in Madrid benadrukte Formule 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali al dat dit niet betekent dat Barcelona van de kalender gaat verdwijnen. In de Catalaanse stad ziet men de toekomst positief tegemoet. Ze zijn momenteel immers bezig met het upgraden van het circuit met een blik op de toekomst. Meerdere delen van het complex worden momenteel aangepast.

Momenteel wordt de pitstraat opnieuw ingericht, er wordt een nieuw gebouw gemaakt voor de Paddock Club en ook de wedstrijdleiding krijgt een nieuwe toren. Het is de verwachting dat alle werkzaamheden voor de Grand Prix in juni zijn voltooid. De kopstukken van het circuit Oriol Sagrera en José Luis Santamaría laten aan Motorsport.com weten dat de werkzaamheden mede worden bekostigd door tientallen miljoenen van de Catalaanse overheid. De organisatie is er dan ook van overtuigd dat de ontwikkelingen in Madrid niets te maken hebben met de toekomst van Barcelona. Men verwacht dat er dit jaar meer duidelijk wordt over deze zaak.

Ik weet ook niet precies hoe het daar zit maar volgens mij is Catalonië wel wat onafhankelijker dan ons Friesland.

Tja lastig. Als Barcelona een contract verlenging gaat krijgen zal dit vrees ik ten koste gaan van een andere GP in Europa, Spa? twee gp's in Spanje lijkt me ook wat veel, ik weet niet hoe de rest hier over denkt?

Kun je rekenen? Barcelona heeft al jaren overheidssteun nodig. Die gaat dus naar Madrid... kom je aan bij de onderhandelingstafel... uhm ja kunnen we de 2de spaanse gp zijn voor 15 miljoen per jaar?

Dominicali: als we snel zijn kunnen we het vliegtuig nog halen voor een GP in Dubai...

  Dat dacht ik dus ook, die overheid gaat geen 2 GP's steunen maar dit gaat over de Catalaanse overheid, dat is wel andere koek, die zetten Barcelona maar wat graag op de kaart natuurlijk.

  Patrick_ST@ ik heb geen idee in hoeverre de potjes geld gescheiden zijn.
  
  Hier in NL hebben we ook Fryslan... maar ook dat belastinggeld gaat gewoon de staatskas in en wordt daarna weer evenredig per gemeente/provincie verdeeld.
  
  Ik meende ook dat dat altijd een reden was van de Catalanen om hun eigen land te willen... zij harken veel gelden binnen maar zien door de verdeling (en slechte prestaties van andere delen in t land) er minder voor terug. Waarschijnlijk ligt t wel gecompliceerder maar dit is hoe de NOS het vaak uitlegde toen der tijd met spanning.
