Petronas ontkent comeback-verhalen Maleisische Grand Prix

Eerder vandaag werd duidelijk dat er mogelijk werd gedacht aan een comeback van de Maleisische Grand Prix. De aanjager van deze plannen zou het oliebedrijf Petronas zijn. Volgens het bedrijf klopt hier echter helemaal niets van en ze zijn niet bezig met een comeback.

De Grand Prix van Maleisië was altijd enorm populair onder de fans en onder de coureurs. Toch besloot men te stoppen met het organiseren van de race op het circuit van Sepang. In 2017 werd de race voor het laatst verreden en daarna focuste de Formule 1 zich op andere gebieden. Eerder vandaag kwam persbureau Reuters met het nieuws dat oliebedrijf Petronas bezig zou zijn met het organiseren van een comeback van de race.

Volgens Reuters zou de Grand Prix van Maleisië dan weer op de kalender moeten verschijnen in 2026. Petronas heeft nu officieel gereageerd op de verhalen van Reuters en de Maleisische media. In een officieel statement is het bedrijf nogal duidelijk: "Petronas reageert bij deze op verhalen in de media die op 31 januari werden gepubliceerd over de mogelijk terugkeer van de race in Sepang in 2026. We willen hierbij graag bevestigen dat we geen discussies hebben gevoerd over het terugbrengen van het circuit van Sepang naar de sport."
