Vowles waakt voor teveel optimisme bij Williams

James Vowles is sinds vorig jaar de teambaas van het team van Williams. Onder leiding van de Brit heeft het team de nodige stappen gezet, maar hij is nog lang niet tevreden. Vowles geeft namelijk aan dat men niet te blij moet zijn met de zevende plaats in het constructeurskampioenschap.

Vowles kwam vorig jaar over van het team van Mercedes en hij werd bij Williams aangesteld als de opvolger van Jost Capito. Williams kende vorig jaar een goed seizoen waarin Alexander Albon meerdere keren een goed aantal punten wist te pakken. Debutant Logan Sargeant pakte slechts één WK-puntje, maar Williams gaf hem toch een nieuw contract. Ze werden zevende in het constructeurskampioenschap, maar ze willen nu doorpakken.

Teambaas Vowles wil dan ook niet te vroeg gaan juichen. De Brit wil meer successen gaan pakken met Williams en daar is hij zeer duidelijk over in de High Performance Podcast: "Wanneer je kan proeven aan succes, wil je altijd vasthouden aan wat je in handen hebt. We moeten het wel in context plaatsen, want we hebben net zoveel punten gescoord als een topteam in één weekend doet. Het was een succes als je kijkt naar onze positie, maar eigenlijk was het helemaal geen succes. Dat wil ik niet voor dit team en de toekomst van dit team. Ik wil meer."
