Mercedes gaat vertrek Hamilton voelen: "Hij is een fenomeen"

Lewis Hamilton maakte vorige week bekend dat bij Mercedes na dit seizoen gaat verlaten. De Brit gaat per 2025 rijden voor Ferrari en hij laat een enorm gat achter bij Mercedes. Teambaas Toto Wolff verwacht weinig problemen, maar hij erkent dat Mercedes zonder Hamilton minder aantrekkelijk kan zijn voor sponsors.

Hamiltons vertrek kwam voor veel mensen uit de lucht vallen. Het transfernieuws lekte pas op donderdagochtend uit, later op die dag werd het officieel bevestigd door Mercedes en Ferrari. Hamilton vertrekt na elf jaar bij Mercedes en dat is een flinke verrassing. Hamilton verklaarde eerder zijn liefde aan Mercedes, maar nu heeft hij dus toch de keuze gemaakt om na dit jaar naar de concurrentie over te stappen.

Aanpassen

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff zal het een en ander moeten gaan uitleggen aan de sponsors en partners van Mercedes. Aan CNBC legt hij het uit: "Hamilton en Mercedes zijn in feite hetzelfde verhaal omdat we al twaalf jaar samen zijn. Als team hebben we nog steeds dezelfde aandeelhouders en ik blijf aan het roer staan. We hebben in George Russell een zeer interessante coureur, dit vorig jaar eigenlijk gelijk opging met Hamilton. Dus je moet je gewoon aanpassen. Onze sport draait om aanpassingen, zoals dat in elke business het geval is."

Fenomeen

Wolff weet echter wel dat de overstap van Hamilton gevolgen gaat hebben voor Mercedes. Dat is vooral het geval op het gebied van sponsoren en merchandise: "Lewis is veel meer dan een coureur. Hij is een wereldwijd fenomeen. Het is duidelijk dat je op eerste gezicht een stukje gaat missen na 2024. Je gaat dat deel missen. Als het Formule 1-team van Mercedes moeten wij onze eigen identiteit hebben en dat zullen we ook hebben in de toekomst."

Ik denk dat dat wel eens enorm mee kan vallen. Er zullen echt wel bedrijven zijn die niets met het merk Hamilton te maken willen hebben.

Het hele black matters gebeuren ligt op zijn gat, LQGHBCO2 geneuzel is maar extreem klein en werkt vooral tegen je. Juist daar wil je als merk ver van weg blijven.

Zal mij niets verbazen als Ineos zo een groter aandeel neemt in Mercedes (want ik denk dat de rol van Wolff inmiddels ook ter discussie staat). Ineos Mercedes team. Mercedes zal wel aanblijven als motor leverancier. En over een paar jaar weer terug komen als er een volledig nieuw team staat.

Mercedes als team zal een lastige periode in gaan, in alle veranderingen die nodig zijn. Het team is gewoon klaar. Een nieuwe fundering moet gelegd worden. Als team hadden ze een enorme voorsprong en de laatste 4 a 5 jaar is die compleet verdwenen. En nu hebben ze moeite om een auto op de grid te krijgen welke competitief is. En dit is niet echt te verklaren.

De motor is gewoon goed, en als team hebben ze dezlefde resources als elk ander team. Maar het komt er niet uit. Dan zal er iets moeten veranderen.

In de voetbal kan een top speler ook vertrekken, mensen op kritische functies kunnen vertrekken en ineens zijn de resultaten een stuk minder. En dat betekend dat dat de trainer en/of bestuur opstapt. Voor Mercedes AMG F1 geld datzelfde...

Benieuwd of hij in 2025 bij zijn eerste officiële pitstop wel bij de rode monteurs stopt. Het was destijds grappig om te zien hoe hij bij McLaren stopte in zijn eerste Mercedes jaar. _macht der gewoonte_

  Dat zou wel straf zijn natuurlijk. Aan de andere kant van grijs naar grijs is de fout sneller gemaakt dan van grijs (of zwart of grijs/zwart) naar rood. Vettel en Button deden het hem trouwens al eens voor, mogelijk zijn er nog? Denk als je eenmaal voor Ferrari rijdt, je je niet snel gaat vergissen van box . . . maar zoals steeds time will tell.

Dit errortje van Lewis was koren op de molen van de FIA propaganda ,ze hebben het grandioos gebruikt voor promotie doeleinden, hoeveel maal hebben ze dit niet getoond op tv en Mc Laren was er ook niet rouwig om hoor.
