Singapore bekijkt F1-contracten na corruptieschandaal

Een groot corruptieschandaal houdt de gemoederen in Singapore flink bezig. Dit leek in eerste instantie geen gevolgen te hebben voor de toekomst van de Grand Prix. Nu kijkt de lokale overheid ook naar de situatie en ze kijken dus ook naar het contract met de Formule 1.

Vorige maand werd bekend dat minister van Transport Iswaran is aangeklaagd voor corruptie. Hij zou zijn omgekocht door zakenman Ong Beng Seng. Deze Ong Beng Seng speelt ook een belangrijke rol bij de Grand Prix van Singapore. Hij was betrokken bij de komst van de Grand Prix en hij speelt ook een grote rol bij het promoten van de race. Nu is hij in opspraak geraakt en dat krijgt mogelijk een staartje.

In eerste instantie leek het er op dat de Grand Prix buiten schot zou blijven. Daar is nu verandering in gekomen, want minister Grace Fu heeft aan het parlement laten weten dat ze de contracten met de Formule 1 momenteel aan het bekijken zijn. Minister Fu wilde er tegenover het parlement nog niet te veel over zeggen. Ze wilden niet op de zaken vooruit lopen, maar ze gaf wel aan dat de voorbereidingen voor de Grand Prix van dit jaar in volle gang zijn. Wat het betekent voor de toekomst van de race, is nog niet duidelijk.
