Vowles verrast door Hamilton-transfer: "Goed voor Lewis"

Vrijwel niemand had zien aankomen dat Lewis Hamilton het team van Mercedes zou gaan verlaten. De Brit maakte vorige week bekend dat hij per 2025 gaat rijden voor het team van Ferrari. Er ging een schokgolf door de Formule 1 en James Vowles denkt dat dit een typische Hamilton-actie is.

James Vowles is vandaag de dag de teambaas van Williams, maar daarvoor werkte hij voor Mercedes. Bij de Duitse renstal leerde hij Hamilton goed kennen en samen pakten ze een vrachtlading aan zeges en wereldtitels. Hamilton kende in de afgelopen jaren twee teleurstellende seizoenen en dat deed hem pijn. Hij aast op sportieve revanche en vanaf volgend jaar gaat hij dus ook zo goed mogelijk proberen te presteren in dienst van Ferrari.

Vowles had niet zien aankomen dat Hamilton zou overstappen naar Ferrari. Ook voor de Brit was het een enorme verrassing, maar hij laat aan de internationale media weten dat hij denkt dat Hamilton kan gaan slagen bij Ferrari: "Het is het moeilijkste om te doen. Elk mens op deze wereld zou het moeilijk vinden om weg te gaan bij een plek waar je je comfortabel voelt, om uiteindelijk de stap te zetten naar een plek waar je je dat niet voelt. Het is een uitdaging en je moet je limieten gaan zoeken, dat past helemaal bij Lewis. Ik denk dat het goed is voor de sport. Voor Lewis is het goed, want Lewis kan hiervan leren."
