Sauber maakt zich geen zorgen over Stake-onderzoek

Het team van Sauber staat dit jaar op de grid onder de naam Stake F1 Team. Deze deal werd met veel bombarie aangekondigd, maar dat levert ze mogelijk ook een probleem op. De Zwitserse kansspelautoriteit onderzoekt namelijk of Sauber hiermee de regels overtreedt. Het team maakt zich echter geen zorgen.

De deal met Stake is dit jaar uitgebreid. Vorig jaar stonden de logo's van het gokplatform al op de auto's van Valtteri Bottas en Guanyu Zhou, maar dit jaar is het de titelsponsor. Aangezien het in een aantal landen verboden is om reclame te maken voor gokregels, heet het team tijdens een select aantal races 'Kick F1 Team'. Ook in Zwitserland gelden er strenge regels omtrent gokreclame en daarom heeft de kansspelautoriteit nu een onderzoek geopend.

Het nieuws werd naar buiten gebracht door de Zwitserse omroep SRF en daarna ging het snel de wereld rond. Toen de logo's van Stake daarna van de Sauber-site verdwenen, vermoedde men problemen. Sauber ontkende problemen en stelde dat ze bezig waren met onderhoud aan de site. Een woordvoerder legt de situatie uit aan de internationale media: "Sauber Motorsport AG heeft zich altijd gehouden, en zal zich blijven houden, aan de wetgeving in Zwitserland en de landen waar de races worden verreden. We maken ons geen zorgen over het artikel over het onderzoek van de Zwitserse autoriteiten. Het proces zal laten zien dat wij ons aan de geldende regels houden."
