Wolff koestert geen wrok tegen Vasseur

Vorige week werd bekend dat Lewis Hamilton per 2025 gaat rijden voor het team van Ferrari. Het was een onverwachts bericht en ook Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff hoorde het pas zeer laat. Wolff is sportief en hij koestert dan ook geen wrok tegen Ferrari-teambaas Frédéric Vasseur.

Hamilton verlengde vorig jaar nog zijn contract bij Mercedes met twee seizoenen. Toen Hamilton zijn contract verlengde, liet hij direct weten hoe goed hij zich op zijn plek voelde bij Mercedes. De Brit gaat nu zijn elfde jaar bij de Duitse renstal in en hij heeft nooit onder stoelen of banken gestoken dat hij verliefd is op het team. Toch heeft Hamilton er dus voor gekozen om naar Ferrari te vertrekken. Hij informeerde Toto Wolff pas in een laat stadium over zijn aanstaande transfer.

Respect

Wolff toont zich sportief en hij is dan ook niet boos op Hamilton. Ook zijn goede vriend Frédéric Vasseur hoeft geen boos berichtje te verwachten. Wolff koestert geen wrok tegen Vasseur en dat hij laat hij duidelijk weten in gesprek met de internationale media: "Ik heb echt enorm veel respect voor Fred. Niet alleen als manager, maar ook als langgekoesterde vriend."

Mes op de keel

Wolff snapt heel goed dat Ferrari ervoor heeft gekozen om Hamilton aan te trekken. De Oostenrijker wist dat Vasseur zoiets zou kunnen doen: "Toen hij deze rol bij Ferrari op zich nam, was het duidelijk dat hij het best mogelijke moest doen voor Ferrari en dat hij elke kans moest aangrijpen om dat te doen. Ik koester geen wrok tegen hem omdat hij de beste medewerkers en coureurs in zijn team wil hebben. Dat heeft geen effect op onze relatie. Het is een zware competitie met het mes op de keel. Ik probeer het beste voor mijn team te doen en hij doet dat ook."

Mooi gesproken door Toffe Toto!
Uiteraard denkt hij eraan om Vasseur met gelijke munt terug te betalen zodra hem dat uitkomt, maar dat hoort bij de Formule 1...

Even het seizoen afwachten misschien en zien hoe het evolueert zowel naar Vasseur als naar Hamilton toe....

Wees maar gerust dat hij er niet bij zal stil zitten, hij heeft net zelf voor 3 jaar bijgetekend en zal zijn contacten die hij heeft opgebouwd zeker aanspreken voor zover hij dat nog niet heeft gedaan. Niks abnormaals natuurlijk maar na de leegloop van de motorenafdeling naar RB mag hij nu hetzelfde verwachten qua aero en mechanische onderdelen van Ferrari.

Achter de schermen wordt nu al heel hard gevochten volgens mij. Mercedes en Ferrari onder elkaar, RB zoals het eruit ziet, intern. Op dat vlak wordt het best een interessant seizoen - mocht dat "on track" net hetzelfde zijn gaan we nog eens wat meemaken.

Zo kennen we Toto: als wolf in schaapskleren. De jaren voor 21 maar roepen dat hij concurrentie wilde. Toen was die er en toen was Toffe Toto opeens minder Tof
