Haverkort verkast naar Porsche Supercup: "Budget voor F3 knelpunt"

Kas Haverkort zal na drie seizoenen in het Formula Regional European Championship in 2024 uitkomen de Porsche Supercup, waar landgenoot en meervoudig kampioen Larry ten Voorde ook van de partij is. Haverkort zal debuteren bij de Nederlandse renstal Team GP Elite.

De 20-jarige Nederlanded won met MP Motorsport de Spaanse Formule 4 in 2020. Vanaf 2021 reed Haverkort andermaal voor MP Motorsport in het Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine. Dat resulteerde in vier overwinningen en drie poles. In 2023 behaalde het Nederlandse talent uit Hardenberg zijn beste eindklassering met een vierde plaats.

Bij de officiële bekendmaking van zijn transfer blikte Haverkort nog eens terug op zijn avontuur in de openwielers. "Na de F4 heb ik ook echt goede jaren gehad in het FRECA. Ook het laatste jaar. Natuurlijk hadden we net wat meer gewild, maar P4 in het kampioenschap is in dit startveld wel een mooie prestatie. Maar ik denk dat we samen met het team er echt wel veel uit hebben gehaald", zei de 20-jarige, opgetekend door F1Maximaal.

In 2024 staat Haverkort voor een nieuwe uitdaging en een totaal andere discipline, maar heeft er veel zin in. "Het is natuurlijk wel een grote stap van Formula Regional naar de Supercup en de Carrera Cup Duitsland”, begint Haverkort. “Maar ik denk wel een hele goede stap."

Waarom dan Formule 3 geen optie was, laat zich raden: geld. "Voor mij zat er niet nog langer een Formule-carrière in. Omdat ook het budget een knelpunt werd. De Formule 3 is gewoon een hele dure klasse. Dus toen gingen we kijken van, nou ja, wat zijn de mogelijkheden? Wat is de beste vervolgstap voor mij. En toen kwam ik eigenlijk via Bas Kaligis in contact met GP Elite. En zo kwam er een afspraak. Het voelde direct heel goed."

De Porsche Supercup is onderdeel van acht F1-weekenden, waaronder Monaco, Spa-Francorchamps en Zandvoort. De openingsrace is in Imola op 19 mei en de slotrace op Monza op 1 september.
