Aston Martin wil Red Bull Racing gaan verslaan

Het team van Aston Martin onthulde vandaag hun nieuwe wagen. De Britse renstal wil met deze AMR24 de aanval gaan openen op Red Bull Racing. Technisch directeur Dan Fallows denkt dat er veel kan gaan gebeuren en dat Red Bull zeker te verslaan is dit jaar.

Red Bull heerst al sinds 2022 in de Formule 1. De Oostenrijkse renstal was vorig jaar oppermachtig in de sport, ze wonnen slechts één Grand Prix niet. Aston Martin joeg op de zege, maar dat lukte ze niet. Dit jaar moet die mijlpaal worden bereikt en coureurs Fernando Alonso en Lance Stroll hebben goede hoop. Het team deed niet kalm aan en de AMR24 werd vandaag direct de baan opgestuurd voor een shakedown.

Technisch directeur Dan Fallows denkt dat de auto's dit jaar enorm veel op elkaar gaan lijken. De Brit stelt dat er nog wel veel mogelijk is, vooral op het gebied van de kleine details. In gesprek met RaceFans legt hij uit wat het doel is van het aankomende seizoen: "We kunnen zeker nog onze rondetijden gaan verbeteren en we benaderen het seizoen met het gevoel dat Red Bull zeker te verslaan is. Daar gaan we op jagen. We focussen ons op hen en daar richten we onze pijlen dan ook op."

      Met wisselvallige omstandigheden zie ik zeker wel kansen , In Monaco was Alonso de enige die het Max moeilijk maakte, en met een betere strategie had Alonso kunnen winnen ,zelfde in Zandvoort in de regen , als ze maar een paar tienden winnen ten opzichte van Red Bull zie ik hier en daar kansen

    Met voormalig vriend Lance was het de laatste jaren niet veel, maar de paar laatste wedstrijden van verleden jaar liet hij plots zien dat hij het toch wel kan.

    Over Fernando zeg ik niets, die liet/ laat zien dat hij 'n toprijder is.
    Dus als er iemand van Aston Martin is die de Bulls aankan is hij het wel.

      Nog meer geruchten in het silly season.

      Tijdens de onthulling van de 2024-bolide van Aston Martin, de AMR24, gaf Alonso eerlijk toe dat er nog geen gesprekken hadden plaatsgevonden tussen hem en Mercedes, maar zei hij wel dat hij zich in een goede positie bevindt, aangezien hij 'waarschijnlijk de enige wereldkampioen is die beschikbaar is in 2025'.

      Tot dusver konden de geruchten niet bevestigd worden, maar dat er nu een gesprek heeft plaatsgevonden tussen Mercedes en het management van de tweevoudig wereldkampioen, dat is nu wel bekend. Voormalig Renault-teambaas en de huidige manager van Alonso, Flavio Briatore, plaatste maandag een foto op Instagram waarop te zien is dat hij koffie aan het drinken is met niemand minder dan de Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff. Zou dit het eerste onderhandelingsgesprek zijn tussen de twee?

    "Red Bull is de benchmark als we het over performance hebben", zo vervolgt Fallows. "Voor ons ligt de focus op de snelste auto en daar kijken we naar. We moeten een auto ontwikkelen die op elk circuit kan rijden en competitief is. En dat is waar we ons op richten: een auto maken die bruikbaar is, die goed is voor de coureurs. De statistieken en hoe we dicht in de buurt van Red Bull kunnen komen, is een zorg voor later. Als we performance weten te vinden, dan hebben we onszelf de mogelijkheid gegeven om op dat niveau te concurreren en dat is precies wat we willen", aldus de technisch directeur.
