Nieuwe McLaren nog niet helemaal af tijdens launch

Het team van McLaren trok gisteren het doek van hun nieuwe uitdager voor het komende seizoen. De Britse renstal wil de aanval gaan openen op Red Bull Racing, maar daarvoor moeten er nog wel een aantal zaken gebeuren. Volgens teambaas Andrea Stella was nog niet alles klaar tijdens de launch.

McLaren zorgde in januari voor een daverende verrassing door hun nieuwe livery aan de wereld te tonen. Hoe de auto eruit zou gaan zien, was vandaag dan ook geen grote verrassing meer. Wel liet de Britse renstal vandaag voor het eerst zien hoe de MCL38 er precies uitziet. Ze gingen daarna direct de baan op voor een shakedown. Het is de wens van het team om de goede vorm van eind vorig jaar vast te houden.

Maar volgens teambaas Andrea Stella is nog niet alles af. Stella is tevreden met het werk dat tot nu toe is verricht, maar er moet nog meer gebeuren. In het persbericht van McLaren spreekt hij zich uit: "We hebben nog veel werk te doen, waaronder het testen van de MCL38 tijdens de wintertest in Bahrein. Het team heeft goed werk geleverd in de winter en we hebben er alle vertrouwen in dat we van start kunnen gaan, maar we weten dat we nog een aantal belangrijke zaken voor de boeg hebben. Niet alle punten die we willen aanpakken zijn klaar voor onze launch. Die gebieden worden nu de focus van onze ontwikkeling gedurende het seizoen."

    Was zeer teleurgesteld (maar begreep het wel) toen Seidl het team verliet maar ben ook positief verrast hoe Stella deze rol heeft overgenomen met een heldere en realistische kijk op zaken.
    Dat het maat snel mag beginnen.

      Mee eens - Stella doet een stellar job. Hij had al veel eerder die positie moeten hebben.

      De integratie van nieuw bloed verloopt vlot, de weg vooruit is ingeslagen en in evolutie naar updates toe toonden ze vorig jaar wat ze nog steeds kunnen mits een goede leiding.

      Ze hebben met Lando en Oscar een goede combinatie vast om het team terug vooraan te krijgen. Zak doet eindelijk meer het politieke en laat het operationele aan Stella over.

      De nieuwe wagen had idd wat vanity panels waar updates te verwachten zijn. Onderaan de wagen en onder de ´carrosserie´ kunnen we niet zien maar wees maar zeker dat ze nu goed weten waar performantie te vinden is en zo het chassis en de elementen er rond hebben op aangepast
      Neem aan dat ze net als alle andere teams hard hebben gewerkt tijdens de winter. Tijd en planning is hierin een belangrijke. Beter op de laatste knip komen met updates die goeie resultaten tonen in de virtuele wereld dan wachten tot je eindelijk on track kan testen met wat langer kan klaar staan.

      "laatste knip" ? Komt Google translate daar op uit ? Doe je dat vaker ? De mening van iemand anders even door de vertaalmachine gooien en dan hier presenteren als je eigen mening?

      Beter op de laatste knip komen met updates die goeie resultaten tonen in de virtuele wereld dan wachten tot je eindelijk on track kan testen met wat langer kan klaar staan.

      Dat zijn niet de enige twee mogelijkheden. Een andere is om op tijd met de juiste updates klaar te staan, zodat je niet op het laatste moment nog van alles aan moet passen. Of op de laatste knip klaar komen met updates die goeie resultaten tonen in de virtuele wereld, maar up de baan niet blijken te werken.
      Je gaat er nu vanuit dat McLaren het kunstje van midden vorig jaar kan herhalen, maar dat moet nog maar blijken. Intussen een handvol veren in de kont van Stella steken is ietwat voorbarig.
