Stroll geeft toe: "Fernando was gewoon sneller"

Het team van Aston Martin kende vorig jaar een opvallend sterk seizoen in de Formule 1. Ze willen die prestaties aankomend seizoen weer gaan herhalen. Alle ogen zijn vooral gericht op Fernando Alonso, zijn teamgenoot Lance Stroll geeft nu eerlijk toe dat hij langzamer was dan de Spanjaard.

Tweevoudig wereldkampioen Alonso liet vorig jaar zien dat niemand hem moet afschrijven. Alonso is met afstand de oudste coureur van het veld, maar zijn prestaties waren zeer sterk. Hij declasseerde zijn teamgenoot Lance Stroll, de Canadees eindigde geen enkele keer op het podium en hij pakte veel minder punten dan Alonso. De kritiek op Stroll werd steeds groter, maar hij wil laten zien tot wat hij in staat is.

Stroll sprak zich zelden uit over het grote verschil met zijn teamgenoot Alonso. Daar is nu verandering ingekomen, want tijdens de launch van Aston Martin sprak hij zich uit bij de internationale media: "Vorig jaar was er zeker wat snelheid, maar Fernando was gewoon sneller. Ik heb wat ideeën over waar ik aan moet werken. Ik wil het woord geluk niet gebruiken, maar ik denk dat we vorig jaar veel pech hadden en ik denk dat die dingen het lastiger maakten toe we vochten voor goede posities. Er waren veel races met technische problemen, veel dingen gingen niet zoals we wilden."

Als je slechts 24,6% van het aantal punten van jouw team scoort dan is het toch een kwestie van zwaar onder de maat presteren ongeacht jouw teamgenoot. Hij heeft een beetje pech gehad, maar lang niet zoveel als zijn vader, hijzelf of Mike Krack proberen over te komen.

      @NicoS, 1 seizoen niet, dat was 2018 met Sirotkin toen had Stroll wat meer puntjes behaald maar in de kwalificatie van dat jaar legde hij het wel af.

    Denk dat het goed is dat Stroll dit besef heeft en zich hier bij neer legt. Haalt hopelijk ook wat druk bij hemzelf weg om zich te bewijzen tegenover Alonso.

      Ik begrijp dat Lance zijn motivatie afgelopen seizoen weg raakte, het moment dat je beseft dat je het niet redt tegen een echte topper is voor iedere coureur in de F1 of in de series daaronder een moeilijk moment.

    Zolang niemand van Aston Martin Lancelot even keihard de waarheid zegt zal 2024 gewoon hetzelfde verhaal zal zijn. Ruk in kwalificaties, af en toe een redelijke race omdat hij een inhaalrace heeft maar nooit echt spectaculair op misschien 2 of 3 races na.

    Wanneer komt het besef bij vader en zoon dat een glanzende carrière in de F1 er gewoon niet in zit en dat hij zonder de macht en het geld van papa nooit de F1 terecht zou zijn gekomen. Soms rijdt hij een goede race in de regen, maar dan maakt ie weer domme foutjes. Te weinig talent om door te gaan, maar gelukkig heeft pa genoeg geld om een vertrek uit de F1 uit te stellen.
