Ferrari verklapte Hamilton-transfer aan MotoGP-coureur

De aanstaande transfer van Lewis Hamilton naar Ferrari kwam voor veel mensen als een donderslag bij heldere hemel. Pas op de ochtend van het officiële persbericht lekte het nieuws uit. Maar het was niet voor iedereen een verrassing, want bij Ferrari had men het nieuws al verklapt aan MotoGP-coureur Fabio Quartararo.

Hamilton leek voor de rest van zijn loopbaan voor het team van Mercedes te blijven rijden. De Britse zevenvoudig wereldkampioen verlengde vorig jaar zijn contract, maar toch heeft hij nu besloten om de stap te zetten naar Maranello. Bij Ferrari gaat hij zijn jeugddroom in vervulling brengen, maar het is ook een groot risico. Niemand weet immers hoe goed Ferrari volgend jaar zal gaan presteren.

Voor veel mensen kwam het nieuws dus als een verrassing. Slechts een handjevol mensen was op de hoogte van de aanstaande transfer. Ook MotoGP-coureur Fabio Quartararo wist ervan. Hij kreeg recent een rondleiding in Maranello van Piero Ferrari. De motorcoureur vertelt aan Motorsport.com dat het Ferrari-kopstuk hem verraste: "Het was wel gek, want een paar dagen voor de bekendmaking hintte hij er al op. Op dat moment wist ik niet zo goed wat ik ermee moest doen en ik ging er ook niet op in. Het kwartje viel pas toen het officieel werd."
