Perez wil Verstappen verslaan: "Zal moeilijk gaan worden"

Sergio Perez staat aan de vooravond van een belangrijk jaar in de Formule 1. De Mexicaanse coureur beschikt over een aflopend contract bij het team van Red Bull Racing. Perez barst van de ambities en hij wil zijn teamgenoot Max Verstappen ook weer gaan uitdagen.

Perez was in de afgelopen jaren de overduidelijke tweede coureur bij het team van Red Bull Racing. De Mexicaanse coureur had in al zijn Red Bull-seizoenen een flinke achterstand op Verstappen. Vorig jaar werd Perez tweede in het wereldkampioenschap, maar zijn achterstand op Perez was reusachtig. Hij wist nog wel twee Grands Prix te winnen, maar Verstappen won slechts drie races niet.

Perez gaat het nieuwe seizoen in ieder geval met veel zelfvertrouwen in. Hij ziet genoeg kansen en hij aast op een mooie kans voor de toekomst. Hij laat aan Sky Sports weten dat hij Verstappen wil gaan verslaan: "Dat is wel een heel grote stap, want Max is in topvorm. Het zal echt moeilijk gaan worden om hem te verslaan, maar we moeten ons zeker verbeteren ten opzichte van vorig jaar. Hopelijk kan ik dat gaan waarmaken. Ik heb nog geen contract voor volgend seizoen, maar om eerlijk te zijn is dat nog niet mijn prioriteit."
