McLaren-teambaas zet Le Mans-ambities Button op laag pitje

McLaren-coureur Jenson Button hoeft zich de komende jaren niet bezig te houden met deelname aan de 24 uur van Le Mans. Zijn enige focus moet de Formule 1 zijn. Dat antwoord gaf zijn teambaas Martin Whitmarsh op de ambities van Button om volgend jaar met een McLaren MP4-12C aan de start van de beroemde lange afstand-race te staan.

Press Association citeert Whitmarsh: Button volgend jaar in de 24 uur van Le Mans? Waarschijnlijk niet. Hij heeft het me nog niet gevraagd. We zijn ook niet van plan om een McLaren in te schrijven voor 2012. Het is wel onze wens om ergens in de toekomst weer op de grid te staan in Le Mans. We bewaren goede herinneringen aan die wedstrijd en dan kan Button alsnog instappen. De komende jaren zal hij zich concentreren op de Formule 1 en dan kunnen we altijd nog daarna een Le Mans-avontuur regelen.
