Teams bereiden zich voor op Concorde Agreement-onderhandelingen

De teams, Formula One Management en de internationale autosportbond FIA vangen binnenkort de onderhandelingen voor een nieuwe Concorde Agreement in 2013 aan. De stakeholders willen allen de best mogelijke afspraken voor zichzelf en de verwachting is dat het pittige onderhandelingen worden.

Mercedes GP-directeur Nick Fry deelt die verwachting, zo laat hij aan de Financial Times weten. Op dit moment zeggen we niets tegen CVC Capital en Bernie Ecclestone. De teamassociatie werkt achter de schermen hard om een positie te bepalen. Het belooft een hele strijd te worden. Je hebt te maken met een groot aantal competitieve mensen die allen voor zichzelf het beste akkoord willen. Maar het beste doen voor de Formule 1 moet de overheersende gedachte zijn. We vinden een oplossing, daar ben ik zeker van.

De teams ontvangen momenteel 50 procent van de inkomsten. Het verhaal gaat dat ze dat aandeel op willen schroeven naar 70-75 procent. Maar ook de FIA verlangt een groter deel van het geld, en Ecclestone is niet bereid nog meer af te staan. Fry: Ik denk dat we veel hordes moeten nemen, alle partijen gaan van zich doen spreken. De FIA wil een groter stuk van de taart, dat geldt ook voor de teams en Bernie wil verloren terrein goed maken. Het wordt uitdagend, maar we zullen een oplossing vinden.
