Maldonado bewaart kalmte tijdens onderzoek naar sponsor PDVSA

Pastor Maldonado gelooft niet dat het onderzoek van een lid van het Venezolaanse congres naar het akkoord tussen sponsor PDVSA en Williams nare gevolgen voor hem zal hebben. De 26-jarige coureur debuteerde dit jaar in de Formule 1, mede dankzij de miljoenen van de oliemaatschappij uit zijn vaderland. De overeenkomst tussen PDVSA en Williams is nu voer voor disussie, maar Maldonado voelt zich vrij zeker van zijn plek voor 2012.

Maldonado: Ik weet niet precies wat er aan de hand is, maar ik maak me geen zorgen. Ik doe mijn werk op de best mogelijke manier en het gaat zeer behoorlijk. Ik voel veel vertrouwen van het team, de sponsor en mijn land. Ik ben blij om hier te zijn en wil graag blijven. Deze kwestie is moeilijk uit te leggen, maar zo gaat het soms in Venezuela. Het is een politiek spelletje vanwege de verkiezingen van volgend jaar. Ik hou me daar verder niet mee bezig. Ik doe mijn best om mijn land waardig te vertegenwoordigen.

Er is absoluut niets mis met de overeenkomst tussen PDVSA en Williams, daar ben ik zeker van. Ik ken de details van het contract niet, maar PDVSA is een verantwoordelijk en groot bedrijf. Ik geloof oprecht dat ze op een correcte manier handelen. Ze zijn bezig met een groot project. Niet alleen Maldonado in de Formule 1 helpen, maar ook het land promoten en de sportvoorzieningen te verbeteren. In Venezuela beleven we mooie tijden qua sport. Zo hoort ons honkbalteam tot de beste ploegen ter wereld. De overheid pikt dat op en pusht voor meer sport in het hele land.

Ik dacht dat Williams bekend zou maken wie hun coureurs zijn voor komend seizoen... Komt zoals verwacht niks van terecht!

Ik hoop trouwens dat deze wegpiraat geen stoeltje krijgt komend seizoen (en daarna)
