Kovalainen: "Dit was één van mijn beste kwalificaties"

Heikki Kovalainen kijkt tevreden terug op zijn laatste kwalificatie van het seizoen in Interlagos. De Finse coureur is het hele seizoen al sterk in de kwalificatie en bleef vandaag ook teamgenoot Jarno Trulli voor. Na afloop beschreef Kovalainen zijn kwalificatie als één van de besten van het jaar.

"Dit is een geweldige manier om het seizoen wat betreft kwalificaties af te sluiten", vertelde Kovalainen. "Ik heb dit jaar veel goede sessies gehad, maar deze was echt één van de besten. Jarno is het hele weekend al sterk hier en na de eerste run stond ik achter hem. Ik moest alles uit mezelf en de auto halen om hem te verslaan en na wat aanpassingen aan de banden versloeg ik hem in mijn allerlaatste rondje. Ook staan we nu dichterbij de concurrentie dan de rest van het seizoen het geval is geweest. Met de nieuwe achtervleugel hebben we wat tijd gewonnen en hopelijk zal ons dat morgen ook gaan helpen."

Team Lotus-teambaas Tony Fernandes vertelde na de kwalificatie: "We eindigden binnen een seconde van de elfde plaats en kwamen maar vier tienden tekort op Williams. Het is een mooie prestatie om het seizoen zo te eindigen in de kwalificatie."

"Mensen vergeten vaak dat wij dit hele seizoen geen KERS hebben gehad. Met dat systeem erbij kunnen we volgend seizoen echt strijden met de teams uit het middenveld. Ik ben dus erg tevreden met de vooruitgang die we in deze korte tijd geboekt hebben."

Ik vindt dit een enorm leuk team op de grid en het doet mij goed om te zien dat ze zo snel progressie boeken. Ik hoop dat ze volgend jaar Lotus Renault de oren kunnen wassen. Iets om naar uit te kijken!

  Wat mij betreft zelfs het leukste. Jammer dat het volgend jaar geen Lotus meer is. vrees namelijk dat ze het volgend jaar idd beter gaan doen als Lotus.

  Boeien dathet geen Lotus meer heet. Caterham is ook echt een mooie naam voor de F1. Misschien nog wel beter aangezien de naam Lotus een naam heeft wat betreft gezeik.
  
  Caterham zijn echt leuke autotjes en ik zou er heel graag 1 willen hebben :D
