Analyse: Het Silly Season 2012 in de IndyCar Series

Net als in de Formule 1 wordt er ook in de IndyCar Series al enkele weken niet meer geracet. Het seizoen 2011, dat zo dramatisch ten einde kwam in Las Vegas, zit erop en de coureurs en teams zijn druk bezig hun plannen voor volgend seizoen te ontvouwen. F1Today.nl heeft een duidelijk overzicht gemaakt van het Silly Season in de IndyCar Series.

Met ingang van 2012 keert Chevrolet terug als motorleverancier naar de IndyCar Series. Vier teams zullen gebruik gaan maken van deze krachtbronnen. Daarnaast zullen Honda en Lotus actief zijn als motorleverancier. Dat heeft ook gevolgen op de rijderskeuzes voor 2012.

Zo zal Takuma Sato zeker het KV Racing-team verlaten nu het team voor Chevrolet heeft gekozen. Sato heeft nog altijd de Japanse fabrikant Honda achter zich staan en hij wordt al genoemd als coureur bij Rahal/Letterman/Lanigan Racing. Andretti Autosport had in eerste instantie Dan Wheldon gecontracteerd, maar vanwege zijn tragische ongeval zal het team moeten zoeken naar een andere rijder. Marco Andretti en Ryan Hunter-Reay blijven racen, James Hinchcliffe en Mike Conway lijken de grootste kandidaten voor het derde stoeltje.

[LEFT_IMG=12957][/LEFT_IMG]De twee grootste teams van de afgelopen jaren, Penske Racing en Chip Ganassi Racing, zullen ongewijzigd aan de start van het nieuwe seizoen verschijnen. Will Power, Helio Castroneves en Ryan Briscoe zullen wederom de eer van Penske verdedigen, terwijl Ganassi met Dario Franchitti en Scott Dixon opnieuw op jacht zal gaan naar de titel. Graham Rahal en Charlie Kimball zullen in het satelliet-team van Ganassi blijven racen.

Bij de kleinere teams op de grid is er nog veel mogelijk. De meeste teams bekijken de optie voor het inzetten van een tweede of derde auto. Ook de Belg Bertrand Baguette wordt genoemd als mogelijke coureur voor A.J. Foyt Racing. Hij reed in 2010 voor Conquest zijn eerste volledige seizoen en kwam afgelopen jaar maar 14 keer in actie voor Rahal/Letterman/Lanigan Racing. Er zal volgend seizoen één nieuw team aan de start staan, Michael Schank Racing. Ten slotte zal Jean Alesi alleen in actie komen tijdens de Indy 500 en dat zal dan gebeuren in één van de Lotus-teams.

GPGert, Ja, dit zijn Renault motoren en volgens mij ook nog V6 motoren, dus erg slim van Renault/Lotus!

Nee, de Lotus motoren zijn van Engine Developments LTD. ook wel beter bekend als JUDD. Lotus badged deze 2.2L V6 twin-turbo.
