Valencia wees voorstel voor gedeelde Grand Prix met Barcelona af

Valencia heeft een mogelijkheid om de aanwezigheid van Spanje op de Formule 1-kalender voor de toekomst te verzekeren laten schieten. Dat beweert Francesco Homs van de Catalaanse regering in de krant Marca. Spanje is momenteel het enige land met twee Grands Prix.

Bernie Ecclestone liet eerder al doorschemeren dat die situatie niet lang stand kan houden. Daarop stelde Barcelona voor om samen met Valencia om en om de Grand Prix van Spanje te organiseren. Dat wees Valencia af, aldus Homs. De economische crisis heeft Spanje echter hard getroffen, waardoor lokale overheden twijfelen over hun steun aan sportevenementen zoals Formule 1-races. Daardoor loopt nu zowel Barcelona als Valencia het gevaar om van de kalender te verdwijnen. Homs benadrukt dat de edities van dit jaar in elk geval gewoon door gaan.
