De Formule 2 begint in april aan een nieuwe jaargang en doet dat met een vernieuwde bolide. Organisator Jonathan Palmer trok bij de Autosport International Show in Birmingham het doek van de wagen, die mede door de overstap op remmen van karbon ongeveer twee seconden sneller zal zijn dan zijn vorige versie. Formule 1-team Williams was wederom betrokken bij de totstandkoming van de JPH1B Formule 2-auto.
