Le Mans: Toyota schrijft tweede auto in voor 24 uur van Le Mans

Toyota staat dit jaar met twee auto's in de LMP1-klasse aan de start van de 24 uur van Le Mans. De Japanse autofabrikant heeft een nieuwe LMP1-hybride ontwikkelt en keert dit jaar terug in de belangrijkste lange afstands-race. Toyota heeft nu bekend gemaakt dat het niet met één, maar met twee teams aan de 24 uur van Le Mans deelneemt.

Coureurs voor de tweede inschrijving zijn nog niet bevestigd, maar Toyota Super GT-rijder Hiraoki Ishiura en Red Bull Racing-reserve Sebastien Buemi zijn belangrijke gegadigden. Alexander Wurz, Nicolas Lapierre en Kazuki Nakajima vormen het andere team. De Toyota TS030 Hybrid debuteert op 5 mei in de tweede ronde van het World Endurance Championship op Spa-Francorchamps.

Pascal Vasselon, technisch directeur van Toyota Motorsport: De twee voornaamste factoren voor de prestaties van onze auto zijn de aerodynamica en het hybride-systeem. Toyota Motorsport heeft keihard gewerkt aan een optimale aerodynamica via windtunneltests en Computional Fluid Dynamics. Gezien de positieve feedback bij de roll-out is onze basis goed en daar kunnen we op bouwen.
