McLaren koestert geen plannen voor motorproductie in eigen beheer

Het team van McLaren heeft niet de intentie om in de toekomst zelf Formule 1-motoren te fabriceren. De Britse renstal blijft op een leverancier rekenen voor de krachtbronnen. En McLaren beschouwt Mercedes als de ideale partner.

Teambaas Martin Whitmarsh: “De Formule 1 is een zeer krachtig platform om een merk te profileren en promoten. Maar wij hebben geen plannen, niet op de korte termijn, medium termijn of lange termijn, om zelf onze motoren te produceren.”

“We hebben veel respect voor de aanpak van Ferrari, maar wij doen het op onze eigen manier. Men speculeert vanwege onze productie-auto's, maar het is niet aan de orde. Mercedes is al achttien jaar een geweldige partner voor ons, en ze bouwen waarschijnlijk de beste motor.”

“De motivatie om te veranderen is zeer beperkt. We waarderen de samenwerking met Mercedes en het is onze bedoeling om die nog jaren voort te zetten.”

Tsja waarom van motor veranderen zolang je de beste betrouwbaarste motor al hebt. Daar moet je zo lang mogelijk proberen van te profiteren. In de toekomst als Mercedes zou stoppen met leveren dan is het wellicht wel een optie om eigen motoren te gaan ontwikkelen. Dat zie ik McLaren dan ook wel do... [Lees verder]

    Tsja waarom van motor veranderen zolang je de beste betrouwbaarste motor al hebt. Daar moet je zo lang mogelijk proberen van te profiteren. In de toekomst als Mercedes zou stoppen met leveren dan is het wellicht wel een optie om eigen motoren te gaan ontwikkelen. Dat zie ik McLaren dan ook wel doen tegen die tijd.

      Het is nog maar afwachten of de Mercedes motor in 2014 nog zo goed is. Misschien stappen de teams wel massaal over op de PURE motor :)

    jammer was wel vet geweest ik zou het ook leuk vinden als elk team zijn eigen motor maakt dan heb je pas competitie verschil

      Oh ja, dat zou geweldig zijn!

      Als je dan een mindere motor produceert ben je bij voorbaat al kansloos, om nog niet te beginnen over al het geld dat het gaat kosten. Het veld zal alleen nog maar verder uit elkaar worden getrokken en we zullen waarschijnlijk de meeste teams verliezen doordat ze het qua kosten niet bij kunnen benen.

      Alles bij elkaar opgeteld lijkt het dus een fantastisch idee.

    Beste allemaal,

    Het is nogal wiedes dat McLaren niet haar eigen motoren gaat maken. Zulke complexe aparaten kunnen alleen door echte technisie ontworpen en in elkaar gezet worden. Daarnaast heeft McLaren het al druk genoeg met de andere klusjes aan hun bolide.

    Na het volgen van al het F1 nieuws deze week is mij nu al duidelijk dat Ferrari en McLaren er wederom niet met ook maar één titel vandoor gaan dit jaar. Overal praatjes over hoe goed hun ontwerp wel niet is. De kans is vrij groot dat Mercedes dit jaar als een bezetene uit de doos komt en alles en iedereen de vergetelheid in rijdt. Zei ik Mercedes? Ik bedoel de zevenvoudig record wereldkampioen Michael \'heer en meester\' Schumacher. Deze god gaat dit jaar in Spa geheid zijn 8e titel pakken. Hoeveel ronden hij meer rijdt dan de 23 veldvullers kan ik niet met zekerheid zeggen, maar rond de 5 ronden moet realistisch zijn.

    Dan nu een ander probleem. Ik werd deze week wakker op mijn schip door een hoop geschuur, gezaag en het geluid van lasbranders. Toen ik mijn 24 karaats gouden kamer deur opende zag ik een groot vervuild strand voor mij. Bleek ik voor de kust van Alang voor anker gegaan te zijn en ben ik in de nacht aan wal getrokken. Kan iemand mij oppikken aldaar? Charlie? Michael?
    Ik ben alles kwijt en sta hier met mijn entourage van schaars geklede Thaise masseuses mijn tijd te verdoen tussen het sloopafval.
