HRT verkiest Dani Clos boven Karthikeyan voor eerste training

Dani Clos zal komend weekend zijn eerste kilometers van het seizoen gaan maken voor HRT. Het Spaanse team heeft vandaag besloten dat Clos, momenteel actief in de GP2 Series, op vrijdagochtend de eerste vrije training zal gaan rijden. Narain Karthikeyan moet zijn stoeltje afstaan aan de Spanjaard.

Clos zal dus op zijn thuiscircuit in Barcelona zijn debuut maken voor HRT. De Spanjaard vertelde hierover: "Ik ben blij dat ik deze kans krijg. Hier heb ik mijn hele leven al voor gevochten, mijn debuut maken in de Formule 1. Dat ik daarnaast deze kans krijg op het Circuit de Catalunya is natuurlijk erg speciaal voor me."

Naast Clos zal de reguliere racecoureur van HRT Pedro de la Rosa ook in de eerste training rijden. Hierdoor komen er voor het eerst in de historie van het nog jonge team twee Spaanse coureurs tegelijk in actie. "Dani is een geweldige coureur en ik twijfel er geen moment aan dat hij goed werk zal verrichten. Daarnaast betekent dit voor HRT een stap voorwaarts in ons project om jonge coureurs een kans in de Formule 1 te geven", aldus teambaas Luis Perez-Sala.
