Teams stellen zich in op strijd om de langste adem voor titel

Teams en coureurs dienen hun gedachtengang over de gang van zaken in de Formule 1 aan te passen. Om het kampioenschap te winnen is dit jaar een lange adem nodig. Wie gefrustreerd raakt als het een weekend niet loopt krijgt het nog zwaar. De situatie is gewoon zo dat de verhoudingen de komende tijd nog wel blijven schommelen, zo verwachten enkele topteams.

Mercedes-teambaas Ross Brawn: "We kijken meer naar gemiddelden over een langere periode. Dit seizoen is een beetje anders en leert ons dat je naar meer races moet kijken voordat je een oordeel velt. Pastor Maldonado deed het uitstekend in Spanje en Sergio Perez was in Maleisië de ster, maar regelmatigheid geeft dit jaar de doorslag. Daardoor staat Fernando Alonso ook bovenaan, ondanks dat hij over een mindere auto beschikt. Nico Rosberg scoorde de afgelopen drie races ook meer dan bijna iedereen, dus je kan het niet meer per Grand Prix bekijken."

Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner: "Het zit zeer dicht bij elkaar allemaal en we hebben vijf winnaars in vijf races gehad. De belangrijkste factor is het begrijpen van de banden. De nadruk ligt op de races die je niet kunt winnen, daarin moet je maximaal scoren. En als je wel kan zegevieren is het ook zaak om die kans te benutten. Er zijn veel goede coureurs in het veld en de meesten staan ook bovenin de tussenstand. Aan het einde van de rit zal er wel een soort patroon ontstaan."

Frustratie mag er zijn, maar dan enkel bij de top. Indien dit overslaat op het personeel en die beginnen fouten te maken, dan heb je een probleem. De meest foutloze zal willen winnen op het einde van de rit.
