Vettel: "Inhalen in Valencia kan, maar alleen met risico"

De Grand Prix van Europa op het stratencircuit van Valencia is de afgelopen jaren bepaald geen fuifnummer geweest. De races in de Spaanse havenstad zijn meestal een processie, zonder al te veel gebeurtenissen. Inhaalacties zijn helemaal een zeldzaamheid in Valencia.

Red Bull Racing-coureur Sebastian Vettel heeft daar wel een verklaring voor. "In Valencia rijden we gemiddeld harder dan 200 kilometer per uur, waardoor het een van de snelste stratencircuits in de Formule 1 is. Inhalen is mogelijk, maar alleen met veel risico. De oorzaak daarvoor is dat de turbulente lucht die van de auto's af komt door de hoge muren langs de baan niet kan ontsnappen. Daardoor verlies je grip en moet je soms zelfs van je gas af als je achter iemand rijdt. Het rechte stuk van start en finish is speciaal. Het is niet erg lang en gaat over in een snelle bocht naar rechts waar we met 290 kilometer per uur doorheen gaan."
