Maldonado: "Ik heb de banden van Pirelli onder de knie"

Williams-coureur Pastor Maldonado voelt zich in het voordeel ten opzichte van de andere rijders. De Venezolaan claimt de veelbesproken banden van Pirelli te begrijpen. Dat vertaalde zich sinds zijn zege in Spanje echter nog niet in mooie resultaten.

Maldonado: "Ik denk dat ik de banden onder de knie heb, veel meer dan vorig jaar. Ook al zijn de compounds veranderd heb ik toch een beter gevoel voor het rubber. Ik weet precies wat ik moet doen om mijn banden te ontzien, om ze te managen tijdens een race en de levensduur van de banden te verlengen. Ik probeer me altijd te verbeteren, maar de combinatie van de auto, de banden en ik is op dit moment erg goed."

"Deze banden werken in een klein raamwerk qua temperatuur optimaal. Zodra je daar ook maar een klein beetje buiten valt ben je nergens. Het is lastig om dat in een snelle ronde te stoppen. De verschillen zijn ook zo klein, met twee tienden verlies beland je al buiten de top tien. Wij hebben hard gewerkt om de banden te begrijpen en te helpen, en om de auto aan de praat te krijgen onder diverse omstandigheden met verscheidene afstellingen."
