Silverstone investeert 1 miljoen in infrastructuur rondom circuit

Het circuit van Silverstone neemt het zekere voor het onzekere en heeft 1 miljoen pond geïnvesteerd in de infrastructuur rondom het circuit om in het geval van noodweer enigszins een goede doorstroming van het verkeer te handhaven. De circuitleiding heeft voorzorgsmaatregelen getroffen voor het geval dat de voorspellingen van een regenachtig weekend waarheid worden.

Silverstone-directeur Richard Phillips: "We proberen de zaken voor te zijn. We hebben noodplannen paraat. Of we ze nodig hebben of niet, dat valt te bezien. We evalueren de situatie elke vier uur. We hebben veel parkeerplaatsen met een harde ondergrond en parkeerplaatsen met verharde wegen daar tussendoor, maar we hebben ook grasvelden als parkeerplaatsen. Dat vormt geen probleem zolang het niet regent en die houden het wel een dag vol, maar het is zaak dat we het drie dagen in goede banen leiden."

Silverstone rekent voor zondag op een recordaantal toeschouwers van 125.000 fans. Op vrijdag en zaterdag zullen nog zo'n 80.000 Formule 1-liefhebbers naar het Engelse circuit afreizen.
