Teams en FIA doen dubbel DRS in de ban voor 2013

De Formule 1-teams hebben overeenstemming bereikt over een verbod op de dubbele Drag Reduction Systems voor volgend seizoen. Dat ontdekte Autosport. De World Motor Sport Council van de internationale autosportbond FIA zal het later dit jaar bekrachtigen.

Mercedes is de aanstichter van deze maatregel, aangezien de Duitse renstal het enige team met een door DRS te activeren F-duct is. Lotus diende daar in China protest tegen in, maar de stewards wezen dat af. In de regels staat niets dat het dirigeren van lucht door een gat dat vrij komt zodra de beweegbare achtervleugel plat ligt, verbiedt. Lotus probeerde de afgelopen Grands Prix een eigen versie van dubbel DRS uit, maar kan daar dus alleen dit jaar nog van profiteren.

In de Technische Werkgroep was een meerderheid van de teams voor een ban op dubbel DRS voor 2013. Mercedes stemde vanzelfsprekend tegen. De andere renstallen gebruiken de vrees voor een dure ontwikkelingswedloop als excuus.
