Valencia wil minder betalen om Grand Prix te behouden

De organisatie van de Grand Prix van Valencia is in gesprek met Bernie Ecclestone om te proberen een lager tarief te kunnen betalen om de race te behouden. Valencia heeft problemen met de huidige bedragen om die te kunnen blijven betalen door de crisis.

Valencia staat sinds 2008 op de Formule 1-kalender waar de Europese Grand Prix wordt verreden. De verwachting is echter dat Valencia samen met Barcelona de race zullen delen, waarbij Valencia het ene jaar en Barcelona dus het andere jaar een Grand Prix mag rijden.

De Grand Prix van Spanje staat volgend jaar op de kalender terwijl Valencia nog druk in gesprek is met Ecclestone om op de kalender te blijven, maar dan wel tegen een lager tarief. Secretaris generaal van de regio Serafin Castellano over de onderhandelingen: "We zijn bezig met een proces van onderhandelingen om de kosten voor de Grand Prix te reduceren. Formule 1 is erg belangrijk, niet alleen vanuit het visuele perspectief maar ook de economische impact, alles er omheen en de banen die het schept voor de regio."
