Grondlegger van befaamde Hewland-versnellingsbakken overleden

Mike Hewland, oprichter van de gelijknamige versnellingsbakleverancier, is afgelopen weekend op 89-jarige leeftijd overleden. De versnellingsbakken van Hewland waren jarenlang toonaangevend in de Formule 1 in combinatie met de Cosworth DFV-motor.

Mike Hewland begon zijn onderneming in 1957 en voerde tot 1991 de regie. Sindsdien staat zijn zoon William Hewland aan het roer. De versnellingsbakken van Hewland zijn nog altijd alom vertegenwoordigd in de autosport. Audi, BMW en Mercedes maken er bijvoorbeeld gebruik van in hun DTM-bolides.
