McLaren: "Rond Pasen verloren we terrein in ontwikkelingswedloop"

Het team van McLaren heeft de boel weer op de rails. De Britse renstal zakte in Europa en Groot-Brittannië door het ijs, maar is uit het wak gekropen en vond in Duitsland en Hongarije de weg naar boven. McLaren is daardoor nog altijd kansrijk voor het kampioenschap.

Teamdirecteur Jonathan Neale blikt terug op de eerste seizoenshelft: "Rond Pasen verloren we terrein in de ontwikkelingswedloop, andere teams boekten meer progressie, maar in juni was het andersom. De resultaten over juli en augustus zijn nog niet binnen. Het onderlinge verschil tussen de teams is maar één of twee tienden, dat is marginaal. Het is opwindend voor de fans om verscheidene coureurs te zien winnen en het vormpeil van diverse teams te zien schommelen."

"De vorige race gaf uiteraard veel voldoening. Het was de 150ste pole position voor het team, daar mogen we trots op zijn. Lewis Hamilton hanteerde een strak tempo. De updates die we in Duitsland en Hongarije introduceerden hebben onze mate van competitiviteit zeker verhoogd, maar we mogen niets voor lief nemen. Jenson Button was ook sterk met een vierde tijd in de kwalificatie. We gaan dus vooruit, maar het was spannend en dat zullen de komende races ook zijn."
