Raikkonen hoopt op Suzuka aansluiting te vinden bij topteams

Lotus-coureur Kimi Raikkonen spoort zijn werkgever aan om snel wat te doen, anders verdampen zijn kansen op het kampioenschap. In Japan heeft de Britse renstal wat kleine nieuwe onderdelen en experimenteert het verder met dubbel DRS, in Zuid-Korea volgt een grotere upgrade.

Dat is nodig ook, zo stelt Raikkonen. "We zijn de aansluiting met Red Bull Racing, Ferrari en McLaren een beetje kwijt, zij hebben zich meer ontwikkeld. We hebben enkele kleine updates voor Japan, dus hopelijk vinden we hier de aansluiting. Maar het is een kwestie van proberen te maximaliseren in afwachting van het grotere pakket in Zuid-Korea. Daarna zien we wel verder."

"We moeten al een gat overbruggen, dus de opdracht is om op een of andere manier voor de leider te eindigen. Het maakt me niets uit of iemand me passeert in de tussenstand, als we de achterstand op de koploper maar verkleinen. Dat is nu het belangrijkste. De afgelopen twee races is ons dat niet gelukt, hopelijk slagen we er op Suzuka wel in."
