Rosberg door kort optreden weinig wijzer over bandenslijtage

Mercedes-coureur Nico Rosberg is bezorgd over de bandenslijtage van zijn wagen op Suzuka. De Duitser kwam vandaag te sporadisch in actie om daar gerust over te zijn. Zijn krachtbron gaf aan het einde van de eerste training de geest en door de motorwissel miste hij het begin van de middagsessie.

Rosberg: "Het was een listige dag. Tegen het einde van de eerste training gaf een sensor aan dat de oliedruk te laag was en daarom schakelde ik de motor uit. De V8 was toch aan het einde van zijn leven en we hebben hem verwisseld om risico's te vermijden. Dat kostte ons wel wat tijd op de baan tijdens de tweede sessie. We staan niet waar we willen staan qua performance en het is zaak dat we vannacht nog wat lessen leren om ons bandenmanagement onder controle te krijgen."

Pirelli-motorsportbaas Paul Hembery over de banden voor Japan: "Dit jaar zien we waarschijnlijk twee stops bij de meeste coureurs, afhankelijk van externe factoren als safety car-periodes en de weersomstandigheden. We hebben veel data te bestuderen, maar het gat tussen de compounds lijkt 1 tot 1,2 seconde te bedragen. Suzuka is absoluut veeleisend voor het rubber, maar met een juist bandenmanagement bestaat de mogelijkheid op een mooie prestatie."
