Prost gelooft niet in terugkeer Paul Ricard op kalender

Fransman Alain Prost heeft in Abu Dhabi gezegd niet te geloven in een terugkeer van Paul Ricard op de Formul 1-kalender in 2013. Volgens Prost is er geen enkele garantie dat Frankrijk volgend jaar op de kalender zal staan.

Wel heeft de viervoudig wereldkampioen Formule 1 zijn medewerking toegezegd aan het circuit als ambassadeur. Prost is in Abu Dhabi aanwezig voor besprekingen met Ecclestone over de mogelijkheden, daarbij zou hij willen praten met locale investeerders uit Abu Dhabi voor een race in het zuiden van Frankrijk.

Volgens Auto Hebdo is de Fransman echter pessimistisch over de kansen. Dat zou mede komen door zijn eerdere betrokkenheid voor een Franse Grand Prix bij Disneyland Parijs, een plan dat totaal misliep. Prost hierover: "Ik heb mezelf teruggetrokken omdat het te gecompliceerd was en er was te veel politiek."

"Hierna en ik naar de World Series race gegaan op Paul Ricard en heb ik over enkele dingen gesproken. Ik heb verteld hoe ik de dingen zie. Nu ben ik in Abu Dhabi in mijn rol als ambassadeur van Renault, dat was zes maanden geleden al afgesproken. Ik ga echter wel kijken wat er mogelijk is."

"Het zwaktepunt van Paul Ricard is dat er geen geld is. Er lopen wel enkele gesprekken met potentiële partners en investeerders, maar als ik naar het budget kijk dat nodig is dan wordt het een moeilijk verhaal."

  Tot mijn grote verdriet moet ik toegeven dat hij een briljante race heeft gereden. En zoals het er nu naar uit ziet wordt hij kampioen jammer genoeg.
