Oud Formule 1-coureur Niki Lauda heeft dit jaar genoten van de Formule 1. De drievoudig wereldkampioen is doorgaans zeer kritisch, maar hij raakt nu niet uitgesproken over de spanning, het spektakel, de actie en de onvoorspelbaarheid van het seizoen 2012.

Lauda: "Het is een geweldig jaar voor Formule 1 geweest. Het had niet beter kunnen verlopen, met de schommelende verhoudingen door de banden en de auto's. Dit was een van de meest amusante seizoenen sinds ik betrokken ben in de autosport. Als je zelf rijdt, heb je toch een andere kijk op alles. Er zijn in 2012 veel mooie succesverhalen geschreven, met name door coureurs. Neem Pastor Maldonado, die totaal onverwachts triomfeerde in de Spaanse Grand Prix. Of Kimi Raikkonen bijvoorbeeld, die heeft fenomenaal gepresteerd dit jaar."
