Pirelli-banden boezemen de teams geen angst in voor 2013

De Formule 1-teams hebben de afgelopen twee jaar zoveel expertise over het rubber van Pirelli opgedaan dat een herhaling van de wisselende verhoudingen en verschillende winnaars van begin dit seizoen hoogst onwaarschijnlijk is. Dat stelt Mercedes-teambaas Ross Brawn. Pirelli wijzigt de compounds iets richting 2013, maar de topteams moeten nu in staat worden geacht om daar op te anticiperen.

Brawn deelde aan Autosport mede: "Het proces van de kant van de teams is veel sterker. We komen uit een periode waarin de banden ons vriendelijk gezind waren en we niet veel kennis op dat gebied binnen onze gelederen nodig hadden. Met Pirelli was de potentie om het goed of fout te doen veel groter en dus moesten we de aanwezige expertise binnen het team vergroten. Ik denk dat alle topteams nu over genoeg bandenspecialisten beschikken. De organisatie staat om te reageren op wat Pirelli ons volgend jaar voorschotelt."

"Dat betekent niet dat we niet verrast kunnen worden. We testen drie maal in relatief koude omstandigheden in de winter en onderwerpen de banden pas bij de eerste race echt aan alle krachten. Maar ik geloof dat de teams nu beter gewapend zijn om de banden te begrijpen en ze op de juiste manier te benutten."
