Dakar: Organisatie geeft Sainz alsnog de etappewinst

Stephane Peterhansel is zijn koppositie in het klassement voor de auto's weer kwijt. De Fransman dacht met zijn X-Raid Mini de tweede etappe op zijn naam geschreven te hebben, maar de organisatie heeft daar vandaag verandering in gebracht.

Carlos Sainz en Nasser Al-Attiyah hadden problemen met het GPS in hun Buggy's, waardoor ze veel tijd verspeelden op zoek naar waypoints. De organisatie onderzocht de boel en kwam tot de conclusie dat de satelliet van de organisatie de kuren veroorzaakte.

Het tweetal kreeg (een deel van) hun verloren tijd terug, waardoor Sainz in de tweede etappe net iets sneller was dan Peterhansel. De Spanjaard neemt ook de koppositie in het klassement over. Al-Attiyah kreeg de zevende tijd in de tweede etappe toebedeeld.
