Dakar: Hans Stacey moet de strijd staken na afkeuring truck

Voor Hans Stacey zit het Dakar-avontuur voor dit jaar er op. De Iveco-coureur wist gisteravond laat nog wel de finish van de zesde etappe te bereiken, maar zijn vrachtwagen was bij een crash dusdanig zwaar beschadigd dat hij geen toestemming kreeg om door te gaan.

Stacey tuimelde in de rit naar Calama van een hoge duin en ging een paar keer over de kop. Nadat zijn truck weer op zijn wielen stond en na lange reparatiewerkzaamheden kon hij zijn weg toch vervolgen. In het bivak keurde de organisatie zijn Iveco echter af vanwege een ontzette rolkooi.

Erik van Loon is eveneens uit de rally. De autocoureur beleefde op hetzelfde punt als Stacey een ongeluk. De schade aan zijn wagen was van dien aard dat het meteen einde verhaal was. Van Loon zelf en zijn bijrijder zijn gelukkig ongedeerd, net als Stacey en zijn crew.
