Jordan bekritiseert selectiecriteria FIA

Waarom mag Prodrive wel deelnemen aan het wereldkampioenschap Formule 1 in 2008 en Carlin Motorsport niet? De FIA maakte dan wel de definitieve inschrijvingslijst bekend voor 2008, maar hoe het laatste en twaalfde team werd verkozen blijft onduidelijk. En dat steekt vindt Eddie Jordan.

Ik heb me ingeschreven voor 2008 omdat ik geloofde dat ik een kans maakte om onze topjaren te herhalen. Dit dankzij de toekomstige kostenbesparingen, begint de oud teambaas zijn betoog. Mijn inschrijving werd echter geweigerd. Daar kan ik mee leven. Ik heb mijn kans gehad en andere verdienen nu een kans. Ik denk echter dat er vele teams teleurgesteld zijn omdat ze niet weten welke selectiecriteria er gehanteerd zijn.

Het ontbreken van een duidelijke redenatie van de FIA voor het selecteren van Prodrive kan wel eens nadelige gevolgen hebben voor toekomstige teams denkt Eddie Jordan. In het verleden kon iedereen met een wagen zich proberen te kwalificeren. Als de teams nu niet de criteria weten om deel te mogen nemen, zal een team als Carlin dan ooit de kans krijgen om in de Formule 1 te rijden?

Verder verbaasde Jordan zich er over dat maar liefst 22 teams zich hadden ingeschreven voor 2008. Persoonlijk was ik zeer verrast toen ik hoorde dat 22 teams zich voor 2008 hadden aangemeld. Ik kan me namelijk niet voorstellen dat op dit moment een nieuw team bijvoorbeeld vijfde in het kampioenschap zou worden.
