McLaren rekent op stap vooruit met upgrade bij tweede test

De McLaren MP4-28 heeft nog geen meter gereden, maar de Britse renstal is al druk bezig met pakketten nieuwe onderdelen. Een dergelijke upgrade volgt voor de tweede test in Barcelona, van 19 tot en met 22 februari. McLaren is vol goede moed.

Directeur Jonathan Neale: "We weten al dat de MP4-28 niet de snelste auto is die we konden maken. De wagen waarmee we de tweede testweek in Barcelona aanvangen bevat al een aardige stap vooruit en we hebben nog genoeg tijd om dingen met betrekking tot ontwerp en aerodynamica te bedenken. Aan de ene kant proberen we de middelen en reserve-onderdelen op niveau te brengen, maar tegelijk willen we ook de auto ontwikkelen. Het is zaak om consistent te zijn."

"Gedurende het seizoen verwachten we een ontwikkelingstempo van gemiddeld anderhalve tiende tijdwinst per weekend. Dat is wat de topteams vorig jaar deden en dat wordt van ons verlangd. Als we een onbetrouwbare auto maken of struikelen en vallen, dan moeten we terug naar de tekentafel om het te corrigeren."
