Vergne positief over vooralsnog verborgen potentie STR8

Scuderia Toro Rosso-coureur Jean-Eric Vergne is voorzichtig optimisch over de nieuwe bolide van zijn renstal, de STR8. De Fransman houdt echter een slag om de arm, een les die hij leerde na de positieve voorbereiding op het verder tegenvallend verlopen seizoen 2012. De STR8 bevat potentie, maar die blijft nog wel even verborgen.

Vergne: "Mijn gevoel over de nieuwe auto is positief, maar dat zeiden we vorig jaar ook en kijk waarin het toen uitmondde. De focus ligt op het begrijpen van de wagen. We hebben veel opties en veel nieuwe dingen die we willen verkennen. Ik heb vertrouwen dat de STR8 een stap vooruit is, maar het zal waarschijnlijk nog wat tijd vergen voordat we die potentie ten volste benutten."

"Er zijn aspecten waar we aan moeten werken, maar zodra we begrijpen wat de wagen allemaal kan, houden we een veel beter pakket over. Ik voel dat ik een betere coureur ben, ik heb veel meer ervaring en beschik over meer kennis van zaken dan twaalf maanden geleden. Het gaat allemaal vrij automatisch en dat is een lekker gevoel."
