Maldonado: "FW35 beste Williams sinds ik hier race"

Het team van Williams sloot vorige week als laatste renstal met de bolide voor 2013 aan bij de rest. De FW35 presteerde bij de test in Barcelona naar behoren. Coureur Pastor Maldonado wrijft zich al in de handen: "Deze bolide is de beste Williams sinds ik hier race."

Hij vervolgt: "De FW35 is veel beter en compleet anders. Ik ben blij met de betrouwbaarheid en het hele team is tevreden, want we hebben veel kilometers gereden zonder problemen. De auto is compleet nieuw, het is niet dezelfde wagen als vorig jaar met alleen een nieuwe voorvleugel, zoals sommige andere teams hebben gedaan. Het is een nieuwe generatie. Het ziet er goed uit, het gevoel is goed en de data geeft een positief beeld. Wij zijn content."

Met name het bandenmanagement van de FW35 heeft Williams aangenaam verrast. "We waren verbaasd. We dachten meer pitstops nodig te hebben voor een racesimulatie dan uiteindelijk het geval was. De banden zijn heel gevoelig en hollen achteruit als je pusht, maar alle teams kampen met dezelfde problemen. Het is een kwestie van overleven. Om goed voorbereid te zijn moeten we voorspellen hoe het circuit zich ontwikkelt tijdens een weekend."
