Bottas: "Aan mij om te bewijzen dat ik deze kans verdien"

Valtteri Bottas debuteert komend seizoen in de Formule 1. De Fin is de afgelopen jaren rustig klaargestoomd bij Williams en mag het nu laten zien. De 23-jarige coureur mag van geluk spreken dat de Britse renstal zich bij de keuze niet liet leiden door financiële motieven, want Bottas brengt aanzienlijk minder mee dan de 14 miljoen dollar van voorganger Bruno Senna.

Bottas: "Het is lastig te zeggen of je speciaal of normaal bent. Alle coureurs die de Formule 1 halen, zijn goede rijders die recht hebben op een mogelijkheid op het hoogste niveau. Het is mooi dat Williams me de gelegenheid geeft om te racen en ik ben blij dat ze potentie en toekomst in mij zien. Ze vertrouwden drie jaar op me als testrijder en hebben me gepromoveerd naar een racezitje. Nu is het aan mij om te bewijzen dat ik deze kans verdien."

"Er zijn wel meer coureurs die een kans verdienen, maar die niet krijgen omdat ze minder geld te bieden hebben dan sommige anderen. Om de Formule 1 te bereiken moet je ook op het juiste moment op de juiste plek zijn. Ik ben zover gekomen en daar heb ik keihard voor gewerkt. Nu is het tijd om prestaties te leveren."
