Van der Garde in China op zoek naar meer opties voor set-up

Giedo van der Garde begeeft zich komend weekend op bekend terrein. Op het Shanghai International Circuit in China reed hij vorig jaar zijn eerste vrije training namens Caterham. Hoewel de barre weersomstandigheden een uitgebreid programma in de weg stonden is het wel de eerste baan in 2013 waar de Nederlander niet geheel onbeslagen ten ijs komt.

Van der Garde blikt vooruit: "China is de volgende race en de locatie waar ik vorig jaar mijn eerste sessie voor Caterham afwerkte, dus het is het eerste circuit waar ik eerder op reed. Hopelijk is het weer wat beter dan in 2012, door de regen kon ik niet echt te pushen. Een beetje zon zou welkom zijn om lekker veel kilometers te maken en we gaan ons focussen op het aantal opties voor de set-up te vergroten. Op dat vlak beviel de auto me niet echt in Australië en Maleisië."

"Het circuit van Sjanghai is vrij technisch. Het is een mix van langzame, gemiddelde en snelle bochten. De juiste balans vinden voor een heel rondje is de sleutel richting performance in zowel de kwalificatie als de race. Ik kampte in Melbourne en Sepang met overstuur bij het ingaan van bochten, dat ging ten koste van de snelheid en de levensduur van de banden. In Leafield en bij Pirelli in Milaan hebben we daar aandacht aan besteed, ik ben benieuwd of we daar in China al vruchten van plukken."

Ik hoop voor hem dat het inderdaad wat beter wordt. Ik heb laatst zijn rondetijden van de laatste gp nog eens naast Pic gelegd en daar werd ik niet vrolijk van.
