FIA en FOM treden gezamenlijk naar buiten over Bahrein

De veiligheid om te racen in Bahrein is gewaarborgd. Middels een gezamenlijke verklaring van internationale autosportbond FIA en commerciële rechtenhouder FOM proberen ze de zorgen over de situatie in het oliestaatje weg te nemen. "Wij willen samen ons standpunt dat de Grand Prix van Bahrein doorgang moet vinden benadrukken."

De FIA en de FOM vervolgen: "We verzoeken een ieder om de wensen van de teams, coureurs en alle betrokkenen bij de organisatie van het evenement om er het beste van te maken, te respecteren. De FIA en de FOM geloven ook dat sport vaak een positieve uitwerking heeft en dat we met de Grand Prix van Bahrein een klein deel van het leed kunnen verzachten."

Zayed Alzayani, voorzitter van het Bahrain International Circuit, stelt dat de veiligheidsmaatregelen gelijk zijn aan vorig jaar. "Maar we voelen geen extra dreiging voor ons evenement dit jaar." Kroonprins Salman Al-Khalifa tot slot: "Niemand zegt dat we perfect zijn. Maar het gaat goed in vergelijking met vorig jaar, de situatie is veel beter. Ik ben blij."
