'Red Bull Racing doopt motoren in 2014 om tot Infiniti'

Het team van Red Bull Racing geeft de Renault-motoren volgend jaar de naam Infiniti mee, zo voorspelt Auto Motor und Sport. De luxe autodivisie van Nissan, behorend tot de Renault Group, is al titelsponsor bij de Oostenrijkse renstal.

Infiniti betaalt volgend jaar de Renault V6 turbo voor Red Bull Racing en verlangt daar meer advertentieruimte voor. Renault is daardoor op zoek naar een ander speerpunt voor naamsbekendheid en heeft haar oog laten vallen op Lotus.

Het grote probleem is dat Renault veruit het hoogst in de boom zit met de prijs voor de motoren in 2014, met meer dan 20 miljoen euro. Williams wendde zich al tot Mercedes, maar ook Lotus en Caterham kunnen dat niet ophoesten.

Ter verdediging van Renault verkondigde ambassadeur Alain Prost: "Het budget van Renault Sport F1 bedraagt 150 miljoen euro. Deel dat door vier en reken uit hoeveel Renault zelf voor haar rekening neemt."
