Astana wil Juncadella ervaring op laten doen bij Williams

Daniel Juncadella is een kandidaat voor een stoeltje bij Williams voor volgend jaar. De Britse renstal ruilt de Renault-motoren in voor krachtbronnen van Mercedes en Juncadella is al jaren aan het Duitse merk verbonden. De Spanjaard is momenteel voor Mercedes actief in de DTM.

Juncadella mag ook Kazachstan en diens hoofdstad Astana tot zijn sponsoren rekenen. Laat Williams nou recent een sponsorovereenkomst met de investeringsgroep TAK hebben gesloten om Astana te promoten. De optelsom is snel gemaakt, zeker na de volgende uitspraken.

Artur Ardavichus van de TAK Group deelde aan Marca mede: "Het is moeilijk om het fabrieksteam van Mercedes te halen zonder speciale training. Daarom wil Astana dat Dani ervaring op gaat doen bij Williams, om hem voor te bereiden op een Formule 1-toekomst bij Mercedes."

Juncadella is daardoor een belangrijke gegadigde bij Williams voor de young drivers-test op Silverstone in juli. De 22-jarige hoofdpersoon weet zelf overigens van niets en is enigszins verbaasd door de uitspraken van Ardavichus.
