Le Mans: Audi oppermachtig in eerste kwalificatie

Loic Duval heeft in de eerste kwalificatie voor de 24 uur van Le Mans de beste tijd gerealiseerd. Met een 3:22.349 zette hij de nummer 2 auto van Audi op een voorlopige pole position voor het evenement. Vanavond volgen nog twee kwalificatiesessies.

Audi heerste in de eerste kwalificatie. Na de nummer 2, met naast Duval ook Tom Kristensen en Allan McNish, nestelden de nummer 3 (Lucas di Grassi, Marc Gene en Oliver Jarvis) en de nummer 1 (Marcel Fassler, Benoit Treluyer en Andre Lotterer) zich op posities twee en drie.

Toyota kon geen weerwerk bieden. Het trio Alexander Wurz, Nicolas Lapierre en Kazuki Nakajima was beste van de rest, op meer dan een seconde van de 'traagste' Audi. De tweede fabrieks-Toyota moest zelfs nog een Lola-Toyota met onder meer Nick Heidfeld aan boord voor zich dulden.

Dan de Nederlanders. Jeroen Bleekemolen verzekerde zich met zijn teamgenoten Michel Frey en Patric Niederhauser in de Oreca-Judd van de negentiende plek overall en de elfde plaats in de LMP2-klasse. Dat is een positie voor Ho-Pin Tung in de Morgan-Nissan.
